Choosing a Material Handler for a Scrap Yard
Birim Recycling material handlers are built for scrap and timber handling, and the range covers mobile machines on wheels and on tracks, hybrid machines, stationary handlers and cranes, and a furnace feeder developed for melting operations. The main decision is the drive: electric, hybrid or a fixed installation.
Electric drive is where the operating cost difference appears. Compared with a diesel material handler, the electric machines are listed with up to 80% fuel saving and up to 90% maintenance saving.

What to establish before specifying
- Reach and lifting requirement. The figure that matters is lifting capacity at maximum reach, not the nominal lift.
- Power supply. Electric machines need the infrastructure at the working position; where that is missing, the hybrid option removes the constraint.
- Ground conditions and mobility. Wheels, tracks or a stationary pedestal.
- Duty cycle. Continuous feeding of a shear or baler sets a different requirement from occasional stockpile work.
